I decided this year I would not take part in Me-Made May. I am fully aware I am a very fortunate person and to me, it seemed kind of...show-offy...to have such a display of my good fortune. I wear Me-made clothing most of the time so I thought it was time to up the ante, so to speak.
I have in my wardrobe a number of things I like but don't wear, possibly because the fit isn't quite right, or the style is wrong for the fabric. I also have some clothes I have thrifted because I liked the colour or the textile from which it was made, but the fit isn't quite there. I'm going to rework those as well.
I've tried this once already, and it worked relatively well, I've also redone a sweater, un-blogged yet, and with mixed success, but I think I can make some improvements.
Below are four items I am going to re-work, or finish re-working in the next few weeks.
A paisley wool challis top I made about 15 years ago. The fabric is lovely but they style is not the least bit flattering. I've been slowly fussing around with this for about a month now.
An orange linen dress. The fit in the shoulders is off, the neckline is too wide, and it needs to be shortened a bit.
Thrifted green linen shirt (too big in the shoulders, to wide across the chest, and the sleeve treatment is just odd) and black linen trousers that have an elasticated back waist. I suppose that helps with fit for some, but it just gives me an odd shape in the back. I'll see what I can do to improve both.
Let's see how this goes!

Off the Rails-But I Made a Whale
Me-Made May photography has ceased to happen. It's not that I've not been wearing self-mades, but I forgot to take pictures for a couple of days, and then the habit was broken.
As for MMM, for the next week, (and for the actual matches in June,) I'm volunteering for the FIFA Womens World Cup Soccer. This is what will make up the bulk of my daily wear for that time.
Also, I've been on vacation this past week and I have been largely rooting around in the garden in grubby old clothes not worthy of photography.
I' have sewn a few baby thing for a new arrival.
Some receiving blankets, wash clothes, and the whale. Baby S's reaction was somewhat muted when he was shown the wee beast but his dad, who hails from the Maritimes, was quite taken with it. (I may have to make him one).

Me-Made-May Week 2
May is just zipping by. (And both Firefox and Explorer are determined to drive me batty today.)
Sunday -Renfrew Kimono tee, second hand jacket and jeans.

| Sunday May 3 |
Monday -same top and jacket as Sunday and yellow Vogue 1247 skirt. The pink leggings match the hint of pink in the top. (See Barb's Public Service Announcement post on compression therapy. I stand all day, so it's lovely to find fun coloured compression leggings. Mine are from Juzo.)

Friday- Sewaholic Renfrew. Earlier in the week I received an email at work suggesting wearing teal for Ovarian Cancer Awareness Day. I no longer have ovaries (the triad of evil was removed a couple of years ago, not because of cancer), but to those of you who do, be mindful of the subtle symptoms and be persistent with your GP.

Saturday -Sewaholic Renfrew with a modified neckline. Saturday was socialize-all-day with three different events. I'm thrilled to have so many wonderful friends, but the introvert part of me wants to spend the rest of the weekend by myself. That won't be happening. We're having a Boxing-Day-in-May party at my sisters for my Dad's side of the family. Again, I have a wonderful family and I am grateful we are all healthy and able to get together, but I'm all peopled out. As Stephanie says, I need time to staccare.

Me-Made May; The beginning
Here we start Me-Made May. I'm afraid there won't be much chatter today. I'm just happy the weather is nicer this May compared to last year. It's still unusual (we're not usually 27 degrees on May 2) but I prefer it to last year's temperatures.
May 1: Renfrew-Kimono tee and a Hollyburn denim skirt.
May 2: Faux cowl top from a rayon jersey and my giraffe skirt.
Let's hope I'm a little more energetic next week.
I hope everyone else is having a good start to the month.

Me Made May 2015
'I, Sox of Finished Thread, sign up as a participant of Me-Made-May 2015. I endeavour to wear at least one article of me-made, re-made or thrifted clothing, each
day for the duration of May 2015 and I will try to wear at least one item from a vintage or independent* pattern company each week.
* This differs slightly from the pledge I signed at So Zoe.. in that I didn't mention the independent pattern part.
Now I"ll just have to see how this goes. During the week is easy, but I don't have a lot of me-made play-in-the-dirt clothes for warmer weather, and so far this year, the weather is soooo much better than it was last year at this time.

I'm Not a Joiner
I have serious committment issues, so I don't join sew-alongs, or contests, or theme months. For me, signing up for something is the kiss of death to any creative endeavours.
To that end, I didn't join the Sew Dolly Clackett fest. But that didn't stop me from making a dress; in fact, I am making three.
I didn't sign up for the Vintage Pattern Pledge either, even tho' I have one dress at the tweaking phase, another one cut out, and a third in the pipeline.
And I am definitely not doing Me-Made May, even tho' I wear me-made or second-hand clothing almost every day of the year. Maybe you have already seen photos of my first two weeks?
Seamless pledge? -yup. An unofficial participant, that's me. I only buy socks, bras, knickers, and my year-round-essential wool t-shirts, but I have a bra pattern and material in the queue, and I am about to take the plunge and make my own smalls.
I wonder what I won't join next?

Me-Made/Not-Bought-New May; The First Few Days
I didn't sign up for MMM and I can't call this Me-Made since some of what I am wearing is second-hand (Not-Bought-New), but I'm ok with that. Maybe I'll call my version of this month's festivities M-M/N-B-N-M. Hah! Say that three times fast.
Ahem. On to the pictures.
May 1. The Goldilocks skirt and thrifted sweater and I'm off to work. Hmmm, that sweater is looking rather ratty. I'll have to do something about that.
May 2 . Corduroy trousers and sweater, garage sales. Scarf -thrifted. I'm off to work again, but it's Friday. Hooray
May 3. Saturday! Hand-me-down jeans and garage sale sweater for a Jane's walk on a rather chilly day. Our high is expected to be only 8 degrees; 9 degrees below the normal high for today. Boo!
Peanut butter and nutella on crackers. One of the benefits of being childless-I don't have to set a good example for anyone.
May 4. Corduroy trouser and a garage sale sweater I felted and up-cycled by adding a front zipper. Thrifted scarf. May the Fourth be With You. I wish I'd known that before I got dressed to go out. I'm sure I could have done somthing differently, but you can bet I've put a note in my calendar for next year.
I've already raked the sand off of the boulevard and I'm off to the Manitoba Museum with The Geek, and then the airport to pick up my sister and brother-in-law.
All this week in addition to the second-hand or me-made stuff, I am wearing a wool t-shirt. I'll likely be wearing a wool t-shirt until June. I am that cold.
