Vintage Late Summer Flower Dress

Note to self: next time make some attempt to pattern match.

Briefly: This is another combination of two patterns, Style 4892 and Style 4980, that I tried last July.

The only thing I did differently was to lengthen the front bodice by about half an inch.

I was so sure the dress was mostly purple, but looking at it now, it looks more blue and turquoise. I should wear my blue stockings and not the purple ones; next time -next year.
I should take in the sides a little more around the waist -it bunches more in the back than the last one did.

  1. What a great dress. The colours are so lovely and it fits beautifully. This would layer up so well with a cardi and boots when it gets colder. Xx

    1. Thank you for your kind words. I think we are all harder on ourselves than we ought to be.
When others say they extend the season of their cotton dresses by wearing sweaters and boots I think it's a great idea but I can't seem to get my head around the idea of wearing my 'summer' dresses in the fall. I shall work on changing my ideas about that.

  2. This is absolutely adorable, and I would love to wear it myself. The fabric is really cool - may I ask where it came from? I am fearing the answer will be 'vintage', but you never know!!

    1. Thank you. I am quite pleased with how it turned out even if it wasn't ready to wear to the party I meant it for. Ah well.
And, the fabric is not vintage. I bought it here; http://www.hawthornethreads.com/fabric/designer/dena_fishbein/painted_garden/azalea_in_peacock

  3. Perfect shape on you! As I've said before, you have a terrific openness to colour and pattern. I should try mashing up patterns...great result.

    1. (either Blogger or Firefox is having a snit about me publishing on my own blog, even tho' it looks as tho' I am signed it. I'll just have to use Explorer for a bit until Firefox gets jealous...)
My mother is still surprised that I do such things (both bold colours and pattern mash-ups). She was taught to use one pattern as printed and feels too self-conscious wearing such bold colours. I tell her the best way to be invisible is to wear bright things. People notice your clothes not you.

    2. No....I hope you don't want to be invisible! You have such a great personality. I suppose I understand though. I tend to like to go about my business, especially when at work (I tend to reserve being social for when it's social time, which strikes some people as excessively introverted!), though I sometimes wear bold patterns.

    3. I don't necessarily want to be invisible but it does come in handy sometimes. I have overheard the most interesting conversations while standing in plain sight.
It was also very helpful when I was little and I wanted to listen to the grown-ups talk. Some of the things I heard didn't make much sense until I was a LOT older, but it does explain some of the family dynamics.
